The median data analyst in India earns about ₹6,84,517 a year, according to AmbitionBox, which had 1,44,866 self-reported salaries for the role when we checked on 16 August 2026. The usual band sits between ₹6,50,291 and ₹7,18,743 for people with 0 to 6 years of experience. The top 10% of reports cross ₹11,46,246 and the top 1% cross ₹22,70,386.
Those are wide gaps, and the gaps are the interesting part. This article separates what experience does to your salary from what your city, your industry and your employer’s business model do, because the last three matter more than most people expect.
Four sources, four different numbers
Before any table, understand why every salary article you read gives you a different figure. The aggregators are measuring different things.
| Source | What it reports | Figure for India | Basis |
|---|---|---|---|
| AmbitionBox | Median annual CTC | ₹6,84,517 | 1,44,866 self-reported salaries, updated 16 August 2026 |
| Indeed India | Average base pay | ₹6,55,191 | 776 salaries drawn from job postings, updated 9 August 2026 |
| Payscale | Average base pay | ₹5,77,472 | 2,389 self-reported profiles, updated 10 July 2026 |
| Talent.com | Average pay | ₹11,50,000 | roughly 10,000 data points from listings |
AmbitionBox and Indeed land within ₹30,000 of each other despite completely different collection methods. Payscale sits lower because it reports base pay rather than full CTC, and Indian offers carry a meaningful chunk of CTC in employer provident fund, gratuity and variable pay. Talent.com is the outlier at nearly double, because averaging the midpoints of advertised ranges pulls hard towards the senior roles that bother to advertise a number at all.
Our working answer for 2026: a data analyst in India realistically earns between ₹4 lakh and ₹12 lakh, with most people clustered between ₹5 lakh and ₹8 lakh. If a source tells you the average is ₹12 LPA, check what it counted.
Data analyst salary by experience
This is the ladder most people want, taken from AmbitionBox’s experience distribution on 16 August 2026. The final column matters as much as the salary column.
| Experience | Average CTC reported | Salaries in that band |
|---|---|---|
| 0 to 1 year | ₹4,38,733 | 32 |
| 1 to 2 years | ₹5,19,938 | 40,051 |
| 2 to 3 years | ₹5,80,371 | 41,144 |
| 3 to 4 years | ₹6,78,781 | 34,819 |
| 4 to 5 years | ₹8,02,846 | 22,900 |
| 5 to 6 years | ₹9,03,979 | 6,859 |
| 6 to 7 years | ₹9,55,367 | 58 |
Read the sample sizes. The 0 to 1 year row rests on 32 reports and the 6 to 7 year row on 58, so treat both as indicative rather than solid. The middle four rows carry over 1,38,000 reports between them and are the trustworthy part of this table.
The shape is worth noticing. Years one to three add roughly ₹60,000 a year, then the step into the 4 to 5 year band adds ₹1,24,000 at once. That step is usually a job change rather than an appraisal, because internal hikes run far smaller than the 30% and 40% jumps people talk about. Separately, AmbitionBox’s insight panel puts growth in the average data analyst salary at 18% over the last two years, which is the market moving, not any individual’s career.
Industry changes the number more than experience does
Same job title, same years of experience, very different pay depending on whose data you are analysing. These are AmbitionBox averages by industry, checked 16 August 2026.
| Industry | Average CTC | Salaries in the sample |
|---|---|---|
| Financial Services | ₹10,00,166 | 5,945 |
| Banking | ₹9,74,553 | 2,076 |
| Software Product | ₹9,06,581 | 5,742 |
| Management Consulting | ₹8,49,978 | 12,936 |
| FinTech | ₹8,42,099 | 1,988 |
| Internet | ₹7,21,337 | 6,685 |
| IT Services & Consulting | ₹6,08,630 | 45,258 |
| Analytics & KPO | ₹5,96,453 | 7,385 |
A data analyst in financial services averages ₹10,00,166 against ₹5,96,453 in analytics and KPO. That is a 68% difference for the same title, and it dwarfs anything three extra years of experience will buy you.
There is a reason. In a bank or a fintech, the analyst’s output moves credit decisions and pricing, so the role sits close to revenue. In a KPO or a services firm, analytics is often the product being billed by the hour, which caps what the seat can pay. IT services carries the largest sample in the table by far at 45,258 reports, which tells you where most Indian data analysts actually work, and why the national median sits where it does. Given two comparable offers, the industry on the letterhead is a bigger long-term lever than ₹50,000 of starting CTC.
City by city
| City | Average CTC | Salaries in the sample |
|---|---|---|
| Gurugram | ₹7,56,027 | 9,551 |
| Bengaluru | ₹7,39,588 | 34,467 |
| New Delhi | ₹7,15,369 | 10,842 |
| Hyderabad | ₹7,05,356 | 17,676 |
| Noida | ₹6,99,611 | 5,681 |
| Mumbai | ₹6,88,306 | 10,069 |
| Chennai | ₹6,86,103 | 10,605 |
| Pune | ₹6,83,592 | 16,485 |
| Ahmedabad | ₹5,53,823 | 1,382 |
The spread across the eight metros, from Gurugram at ₹7,56,027 down to Pune at ₹6,83,592, is about ₹72,435. That is far less than people assume. Between Gurugram and Ahmedabad it widens to over ₹2 lakh, and that is really a difference in which companies are present rather than a cost-of-living adjustment.
Indeed’s city figures, built from job postings rather than employee reports, rank the same cities in a similar order but sit higher: Gurgaon at ₹8,51,656, Bengaluru at ₹8,16,220, Noida at ₹7,57,115, Hyderabad at ₹6,77,055 and Mumbai at ₹6,62,925. Postings advertise what employers hope to attract; employee reports record what people accepted. The truth is usually nearer the second.
Data analyst salary in Bangalore
Bengaluru deserves its own read because it holds 34,467 of the 1,44,866 salary reports on AmbitionBox, close to a quarter of every data analyst salary reported in the country. No other city is close. The average sits at ₹7,39,588 against a national median of ₹6,84,517, so the city premium is about 8%, and Indeed’s posting-based average of ₹8,16,220 points the same way.
An 8% premium is smaller than the rent difference, which is the honest thing to say about moving to Bengaluru purely for analyst pay. What the city actually gives you is volume. Product companies, global capability centres and funded startups are concentrated here, so you get more interviews per month and a shorter path from your first analyst job to your second, which is where the real money is. That compounding is the Bengaluru argument, not the starting number.

The employer matters as much as the city
AmbitionBox’s company-level bands, checked on 16 August 2026, make the point better than any argument.
| Company | Typical data analyst CTC | Approximate salaries in the sample |
|---|---|---|
| Deloitte | ₹7.2 to ₹8 lakh | 1,100 |
| Accenture | ₹5.7 to ₹6.3 lakh | 1,400 |
| S&P Global | ₹4.9 to ₹5.5 lakh | 1,200 |
| Capgemini | ₹4.4 to ₹4.9 lakh | 1,200 |
| TCS | ₹4.2 to ₹4.7 lakh | 3,000 |
| Infosys | ₹4 to ₹4.4 lakh | 689 |
| Wipro | ₹3.9 to ₹4.4 lakh | 1,100 |
Deloitte’s band is roughly double Wipro’s for the same title. Large service firms hire analysts in bulk against a standardised band set by the rate the client is billed, not by how good you are. Consulting and product firms hire fewer analysts against a business case, and pay accordingly. None of this makes a service company a bad first job; it is the highest-volume entry route in India and it teaches client work fast. It does mean the second job is where the money is.
What actually raises the number
Four levers, in the order they tend to pay off.
- Change employer at the two to three year mark. The largest single step in the experience table lands right there, and it lands on people who moved.
- Move towards the money. An analyst who understands credit risk, pricing or unit economics gets paid from the financial services and fintech bands rather than the services band.
- Go deeper on SQL than the job needs. Window functions, query tuning and modelling data rather than just querying it separate an analyst who is handed questions from one who is handed a problem.
- Own a business metric end to end. The promotion to senior analyst usually goes to whoever the business already asks directly.
Certifications sit below all four. They help you get the first interview and do little after that, a point we work through in our read on which data analytics certifications are worth it in India.
Where SkilloVilla alumni land
SkilloVilla alumni working in data roles earn between 4 and 15 LPA, with a median package of 9.5 LPA and the highest at 32 LPA. They have been hired at companies including Accenture, PwC, Razorpay, Swiggy, Flipkart and Lenskart.
Read that against the tables above rather than in isolation. A 9.5 LPA median sits above the national median of ₹6,84,517, which is what you would expect from a group that is self-selected, trained for the interview and often switching in with prior work experience. The 4 LPA floor is real too, and it is roughly where a first analyst role at a service company starts.

Frequently asked questions
What is the average data analyst salary in India in 2026?
AmbitionBox puts the median annual CTC at ₹6,84,517 from 1,44,866 reported salaries as of 16 August 2026, and Indeed India puts the average base pay at ₹6,55,191 from 776 job postings. Payscale is lower at ₹5,77,472 because it measures base pay rather than CTC. A realistic working range for the role is ₹4 lakh to ₹12 lakh, with most analysts between ₹5 lakh and ₹8 lakh.
Which city pays data analysts the most in India?
Gurugram tops AmbitionBox’s city list at an average of ₹7,56,027, followed by Bengaluru at ₹7,39,588 and New Delhi at ₹7,15,369. Indeed’s posting-based figures rank Gurgaon and Bengaluru first as well, at ₹8,51,656 and ₹8,16,220. The gap between the leading cities is small, so industry and employer are better things to optimise for than location.
How much does a data analyst earn in Bangalore?
The average is ₹7,39,588 on AmbitionBox from 34,467 salary reports, against ₹8,16,220 on Indeed from job postings. That is roughly 8% above the national median. Bengaluru’s advantage is less about the premium and more about the density of product companies and global capability centres, which means more interviews and faster moves between jobs.
Do data analysts get paid more than business analysts in India?
Generally the other way round. AmbitionBox’s median for business analysts in India was ₹10,07,445 from 1,51,386 reports when we checked in August 2026, against ₹6,84,517 for data analysts. The business analyst title in India often covers more senior, process-owning work in banks and consulting firms, which is where the difference comes from rather than from the technical skills involved.
How much can a data analyst earn after 5 years?
AmbitionBox reports an average of ₹9,03,979 for the 5 to 6 year band from 6,859 salaries. People who changed employers once or twice and moved into financial services, fintech or a product company sit well above that, since those industries average between ₹8,42,099 and ₹10,00,166 across all experience levels. Staying in one IT services role for five years typically lands at the lower end.
Is a data analyst salary in India growing?
AmbitionBox’s insight panel records 18% growth in the average data analyst salary over the last two years. The growth is uneven: it is concentrated in financial services, fintech and product companies, while the large IT services bands have moved much more slowly.
Where to start if the number you want is higher than the one you have
The tables point in one direction. Which band you sit in is mostly about the industry you enter and how deep your SQL and business sense go, and both are decided by how you train.
