Best SQL Courses in India (2026): Free and Paid, Compared

7 min read

You can learn SQL to interview standard in India without paying anyone, and plenty of working analysts did exactly that. What money buys is pace, review and a credential. Free routes cost only time. Subscription platforms run ₹300 to ₹600 a month. A live, mentor-reviewed SQL course is ₹33,110. A full analytics programme with SQL as one module runs ₹34,999 to ₹1,19,999.

Fees and course details last checked September 2026; confirm current numbers with the provider before enrolling.

SQL courses by level, free and paid

This table covers routes that teach SQL itself. Programmes that include SQL as one module of a longer analytics course are further down, because you buy those for a different reason. The certificate column separates the two kinds on offer: a completion certificate says you finished, an exam-backed one says you passed something.

Route Level Format Length Certificate Fee
SkilloVilla SQL: Beginner to Advanced Beginner to advanced Live online classes, mentors review your queries 8 weeks Completion certificate ₹33,110
SkilloVilla Data Analytics with Python Beginner to job-ready, SQL as one module Live online, cohort timetable 4 to 5 months Completion certificate ₹71,999, currently ₹58,999
Our SQL tutorials on this blog Beginner to intermediate Written, self-paced A weekend each None Free
Codecademy Basic Beginner Interactive exercises in the browser Self-paced, no fixed length None Free, limited access
Codecademy Plus Beginner to intermediate Interactive, self-paced Self-paced, no fixed length Completion certificates ₹300 a month billed annually, ₹600 billed monthly
Codecademy Pro Beginner to advanced Interactive, plus interview prep tools Self-paced, no fixed length Completion certificates ₹600 a month billed annually, ₹1,200 billed monthly
DataCamp Premium Beginner to advanced Interactive, self-paced, 790-plus courses Self-paced, no fixed length Completion certificates ₹599 a month billed annually
Udemy, individual courses Beginner to advanced Recorded video About 20 hours of video is typical Completion certificate ₹499 against a ₹3,469 list price on the course checked
Coursera, Google Data Analytics Certificate Beginner, analytics broadly rather than SQL alone Recorded, self-paced Under 6 months at about 10 hours a week Professional certificate ₹1,902 a month
NPTEL, the IIT and IISc platform Beginner to intermediate Recorded lectures, self-paced About 12 weeks Yes, after a proctored exam Free to study, ₹1,000 for the exam

Every competitor fee here was read on the provider’s own page on 24 September 2026. Where a provider publishes no fee, this page says so rather than guessing one.

What the free routes get you, and where they stop

The language is not the hard part, and nobody should pay to be told what an INNER JOIN does. Our own SQL joins explainer covers the four join types with worked examples, DDL commands in SQL covers the table-definition half of the language, and SQL database types explains why the syntax shifts slightly between MySQL, PostgreSQL and SQL Server. Codecademy’s Basic tier is free with limited access and teaches by making you type queries rather than watch them, which is the right shape for a beginner.

NPTEL is worth knowing about for a different reason: it is run by the IITs and IISc, its course content is free to study, and the certificate costs ₹1,000 for the proctored exam, as listed in September 2026 for its twelve-week course on data analytics using Python. Its catalogue changes each semester, so check whether a database course is running before you plan around it.

What free study does not give you is anyone telling you your query is slow, wrong in a way that still returns rows, or written in a style that will get picked apart in an interview. That gap is what the paid tiers sell, and it is the only honest reason to pay.

Subscriptions: ₹300 to ₹600 a month

DataCamp Premium is ₹599 a month billed annually and opens 790-plus courses rather than one, as listed in September 2026. Codecademy Plus is ₹300 a month billed annually or ₹600 billed monthly, and Pro is ₹600 billed annually or ₹1,200 monthly, with interview-prep tools and a job-readiness checker on the Pro plan. Both are self-paced with no fixed length, which is the catch: the subscription bills monthly whether or not you open it.

Udemy is a marketplace, not a provider, so it has no single price. Courses sit on near-permanent sale, and one bestselling analyst bootcamp was ₹499 against a ₹3,469 list price on 24 September 2026, with roughly 21.5 hours of video. At that price the maths is easy. What you are not buying is any form of review.

Coursera’s Google Data Analytics Professional Certificate is ₹1,902 a month, as listed in September 2026, and Google’s own claim is that most learners finish in under six months at about ten hours a week. It teaches analytics broadly rather than SQL in depth, so treat it as a foundation, not a SQL course. Coursera Plus, at ₹13,999 a year list, only makes sense if you plan to finish more than one certificate.

A taught SQL course, and what ₹33,110 buys

SQL: Beginner to Advanced is ₹33,110 and runs 8 weeks of live classes, with mentors who read the queries you write instead of marking them right or wrong. The arc is the one interviews test: SELECT and filtering, aggregation and GROUP BY, the four joins, subqueries, then window functions. SkilloVilla issues a completion certificate for it, not a university credential, which is worth saying plainly if a recognisable institutional name is what you are shopping for.

Not for you if you learn best at 1 a.m. at your own pace. It is a live cohort with a timetable, and a self-paced subscription at ₹599 a month will suit that reader better.

If SQL is one gap in a bigger plan rather than the whole plan, the Data Analytics with Python track is ₹71,999, currently ₹58,999, over 4 to 5 months of live classes, and places SQL alongside Excel, statistics, Python and a Power BI module, with 1:1 mentorship and placement support behind it. SkilloVilla reports alumni packages between 4 and 15 LPA with a median of 9.5 LPA, at companies including Deloitte, Razorpay, Swiggy, Flipkart and Giva. Scholarships are available based on candidate profile.

SQL inside a full analytics programme

Nobody is hired for SQL alone, so most buyers end up choosing a programme rather than a SQL course. The band, on fees read in September 2026: PW Skills sells the same five-month analytics syllabus at ₹6,999 recorded, ₹29,999 with live weekend sessions and ₹34,999 with mentorship, plus a non-refundable ₹10,000 registration fee on the two higher plans. Internshala is ₹34,999 against a ₹40,000 list price over six months. AccioJob is ₹65,000 online and ₹70,000 for its classroom batch, same curriculum either way. Bosscoder Academy is ₹1,11,999 for six months with four live classes a week. Simplilearn’s Professional Certificate Program with IITM Pravartak is ₹1,19,999 including taxes over seven months, and carries an IITM Pravartak certificate plus a Microsoft course certificate, which is the strongest credential in this band.

ExcelR teaches Excel, MySQL, Tableau and Power BI over “150+ Hours / 6 Months” as its own page puts it, from BTM Layout and Marathahalli in Bengaluru, and publishes no fee anywhere. It is not alone: of the twenty-five providers checked on 24 September 2026, seven show no price at all until you hand over a phone number. Ask for the number in writing on the first call, because the first figure a counsellor quotes is rarely the last.

The fifteen-programme view, if you are choosing the programme rather than the tool, is in our comparison of the best data analytics courses in India.

How long SQL actually takes

Faster than people expect, and slower than a weekend bootcamp implies.

Stage Realistic time What you can do at the end
Reading and filtering 3 to 5 days Pull the rows you want from one table and sort them
Aggregation and GROUP BY 1 week Answer “how many orders per city last month” without help
Joins across tables 2 weeks Write a three-table join with a filter and a GROUP BY, and explain why a LEFT JOIN changed the row count
Subqueries and CTEs 1 to 2 weeks Break a messy question into steps instead of one unreadable query
Window functions 2 to 3 weeks Rank customers by spend within each city, work out running totals and month-on-month change

Six to ten weeks of near-daily practice takes an honest beginner to the level a first analyst interview tests. The people who take nine months are almost always watching rather than typing.

What to practise alongside the course

Get a real database in front of you in week one. Install MySQL or PostgreSQL locally, or use any free browser-based SQL sandbox, and load a dataset with at least four related tables so joins mean something. Then write forty queries against it, starting at “how many orders last month” and ending at “rank customers by spend within each city”. Write them, do not read them.

Two things belong next to the querying. First, Excel, because you will be handed a spreadsheet more often than a database login in your first year. Second, one BI tool, usually Power BI or Tableau, because a query result nobody can see is not an answer. Finally, work through a set of SQL interview questions out loud rather than in your head; most candidates fail on explaining a join, not on writing one.

Where SQL sits in an analyst’s toolkit

It is the first thing to learn and the last thing you stop using. Open twenty data analyst job posts on Naukri and SQL appears in more of them than Python, Power BI or Tableau. The reason is structural: business data lives in databases, and every dashboard, model and spreadsheet downstream starts with someone pulling the right rows. An analyst who is fluent in SQL and weak in Python still gets hired. The reverse is rarer.

That is also why SQL comes second in most sensible learning orders, after Excel and before Python, which is how our data analyst roadmap sequences it.

Frequently asked questions

Which SQL course is best in India in 2026?

There is no single winner, only the best fit for your constraint. If you are disciplined and broke, free tutorials plus a real database will genuinely get you to interview standard. If you need a timetable and someone reviewing your work, a live course at ₹33,110 is the tier that buys that. If SQL is one gap inside a career switch, buy the analytics programme instead and stop paying twice.

Can I learn SQL for free and still get a job?

Yes, and the certificate is not what gets you hired in either case. Recruiters test SQL in a live screen or a take-home, so what matters is whether you can write a three-table join under mild pressure. The risk with free study is not the material, it is that nothing holds your pace and nobody corrects the habits you pick up.

How long does it take to learn SQL for a data analyst job?

Six to ten weeks of near-daily practice for the level a first interview tests, which is joins, aggregation, subqueries and the beginnings of window functions. Three months gets you comfortable. People who spend nine months on it are usually watching videos rather than writing queries.

Is a SQL certificate worth anything in India?

On its own, very little. A completion certificate from any platform tells a recruiter you finished something, not that you can write a query. The exception is an exam-backed credential such as NPTEL’s, which costs ₹1,000 for the proctored exam as listed in September 2026 and at least proves you sat a test. Either way the portfolio and the live screen decide the outcome.

Should I learn SQL or Python first?

SQL, in almost every case. It takes weeks rather than months, it appears in more analyst job descriptions, and it is the skill most first-round screens test. Python is what you add once you are pulling data confidently and need to clean, model or automate it.

Do I need a computer science degree to learn SQL?

No. SQL was designed to be readable by people who are not programmers, and commerce, arts and non-engineering graduates learn it routinely. What it demands is regular practice against real tables, not a particular degree.

Start with the one skill every analyst job tests

If you want SQL taught rather than watched, SQL: Beginner to Advanced is ₹33,110, runs live, and has mentors reading the queries you write. If SQL is one part of a switch into analytics, the Data Analytics with Python track at ₹71,999, currently ₹58,999, puts it alongside Excel, statistics, Python and placement support over 4 to 5 months. Book a counselling call and ask what the fee does not include.
